Denise Treissman
For many years I have enjoyed sharing with others the treasures of Lady Julian of Norwich and the many benefits of Meditation in retreat centres around the country.
I have done teacher training not only for Capacitar practices but also in meditation, and in 2009 I completed training in Spiritual Direction at Ushaw College and St Antony's Priory in Durham. I currently work as part of the Norwich Dioscesan Spiritual Directors' Network.
More recently I have also been teaching Wellness Workshops thanks to the Capacitar course I qualified in with Dr Patricia Mathes Cane in 2014, remarkable healing practices that enable us to promote wellbeing for ourselves and others.
Inspired by Tibetan friends' gifts of wall-hangings illustrated with words of HH Dalai Lama, I chose to create screen prints of Lady Julian's words so that I could enjoy her influence around my home in a small market town in North Norfolk where I also love playing the flute.
Alongside these passions, I have responsibility for keeping the late Rev. Robert Llewelyn's books in print, something he asked me to do before his death in 2008. As his literary executor, I approached Canterbury Press asking if they would republish his most famous book, “With Pity Not With Blame” about Julian of Norwich, and they did so in 2013.
Also in April 2013, we celebrated the creation of a 'Llewelyn Archive' with his manuscripts and papers being housed at Norwich Cathedral Library, and many leaflets, articles, information and photographs about his life being available for the public to see at the Julian Centre on Rouen Road in Norwich.
Robert Llewelyn’s breadth of spirituality taught me so much and informed my own experience of studying other faiths. My friendship over many years with Tibetan Buddhist refugees has enriched my Christian practice of living. I seek to share with others something of the treasures given to me.
The first website, 'Light for the Journey' was created to make Robert's leaflets about Julian of Norwich and spirituality available for people to download for free. It also promoted my tribute to him in the film I made in Britain and India, the DVD “Love Was His Meaning”, available in the online shop.
This new website, thanks to the amazing skills of Julie Darling and the help and encouragement of Jane Bagley and others at Broadland District Council, seeks to focus more on my work to help others grow spiritually as well as in wellbeing through workshops, talks, spiritual direction and creativity.
